Sunrise over the German Catholic Compound

I spent my late teens and early twenties wandering.

You see, I lovingly referred to my childhood home as the German Catholic Compound. That sentence tells you a lot (if you’ll indulge in some stereotypes). It was a place of quiet order with a strong emphasis on right and wrong, authority, tradition. Life in an agricultural community in the Midwest was seasonal, cyclical, and even liturgical. It was protected, removed.
